I bought this so that on an upcoming safari I would have something to refer to if need be. I'm taking my kindle and leaving about a dozen books at home. It is NOT as easy to find what you are looking for as in a hard copy field guide but it is nice to have something along if needed.Product details

This is a very thorough manual replacement type of guide. It explains in detail EVERY feature of the camera. The author takes pride in his thoroughness. After itemizing the friction pad (bottom of camera - for making a more secure connection with a tripod head) he notes that that is not documented in the diagram in the Canon manual.
The explanations of every menu item, switch, and feature are clear and more helpful than Canon's own. If you're looking for something you could actually read through (or at least read through sections that are important to how you plan to use the camera), this book will fill the bill.
It's not going to give you a great deal of creative guidance and, while it will give you the basic functions, it's not loaded with advice on using the camera for video. But if you want to know how to use a feature or want to know the difference in Live view between a little AF icon that looks like brackets vs a little AF icon that looks like a rectangle, this will bring things into ... a clearer light.
